Wedding Registry Q & A

QWhy should we create a wedding registry?

A:  If a shower is being given in your honor, then a wedding registry is helpful for guests to buy you a gift.  This allows them to give you items that you need and/or want to set up your new home together.  Wedding guests will also seek out the registries of the couple they are honoring for this same reason.  Registries take the guesswork out of gift giving.

QWhat should we include in a wedding registry?

A:  Today’s registries have a wide array of options for gift-giving.  From basic dinnerware, china and towels to camping gear and furniture, the choice is yours and the possibilities are endless.  You should select items that you want and need in a wide range of prices starting at $10.

QWhat about china and crystal?

AChina and crystal are very traditional wedding gifts and many givers prefer to give these items.  It’s a good idea to register for both – and in the long run, you will be glad you did.  They add a beautiful touch to entertaining and holiday gatherings.  If you decide not to keep these items, most stores will give you store credit to spend on something else.

QIs it wise to register at more than one store?

A:  Registering at more than one store – and even online – provides you and your guests options in convenience, price and variety.  Although registering at multiple stores may result in possible duplicate gifts, most stores honor returns/exchanges.

QHow do we choose where to register?

A:  Choose stores where you and your family and friends like to shop, are familiar with their products and service, and are reputable.  If you are not sure, ask around.  Ask couples who have had bridal registries about their experiences with merchants.  Convenience is also important – make sure that the registries you choose are easy to get to and easy to deal with.  Also consider your exchange options if you receive duplicates – what can you exchange your extra dishes for?

QHow do we tell guests where we’re registered?

A:  This information is included on shower invitations – be sure that the shower hostess has a list of where you’re registered.  If you set up a wedding webpage, you may list your registries there.  Often, guests will ask you or your family members if they want to know where you’re registered.  Otherwise, they will seek out your registry online, in department stores or in newspaper advertisements of local registries; or they will purchase a gift from a merchant of their choice.
